Many people don’t know this, but my mother actually has her own accessories line called “Lyokaccessories”. Its an African based brand that primarily focuses on highlighting West African fashion trends. At first, her line focused solely on accessories. It wasn’t until recently that she decided to add clothing into the mix and if you ask me, I think it was a great idea! In here latest trip to Nigeria, she came back with a load of anakara patterned pants and skirts and asked me to model them to promote her upcoming collection. And my first task, were these pants right here!
When I tried on the pants for the first time, I couldn’t help but notice that I had a matching one shouldered coral dress that perfectly matched the coral present in the pants. And if you’ve been following my blog for a while, then you know that I am very privy to tucking in a short dress into a great pair of pants or a skirt to create a makeshift jumpsuit.
I felt the asymmetrical look would give the pants a more dynamic effect. Especially when paired with the proper hairstyle and accessories. Speaking of which, I wanted my hair to be just as dynamic as the outfit itself. I’ve always been a fan of the excessive bobby pin look, but today even more so, because I feel the gold diamond pins gave the look an elegant, yet a fashion forward touch.
As far as shoes and earrings, I didn’t want to do the obvious and wear gold or silver. I wanted to keep the look as colorful and spontaneous as possible. I wanted to highlight a color you all wouldn’t expect, but yet the subtleties matched perfectly. So I decided to pair my hunter green earrings with my hunter green heels just to show hows far you can really stretch the color blocking marker if you allow yourself to step outside the box a little bit!
Hope you all enjoy this look, and sty tuned for more fun Ankara looks coming soon!
