Last Friday I went to see the movie that everyone has been buzzing about, Straight Outta Compton, and I must say it lives up to the hype. I’ve always been a fan of N.W.A, but after watching the film, I learned so much about those 5 gentleman and I am SO proud of everything they have accomplished for themselves as well as for the black community as a whole.

I was inspired by the movie because for one reason: they followed their dreams. Coming from a girl with big dreams myself, that is amazing to see. Although their tactics may have been different than what most would do, they fought their way to top and look at them now:  Ice Cube (O’ Shea Jackson) is not only a rapper, but he is a family man, a successful actor, song writer, and producer, worth over 100 million dollars. Dr. Dre (Andre Young) is a also a father as well as a world renown producer, rapper, and successful entrepreneur grossing in over $700 million dollars. He also has help foster the development of the successful careers of Snoop Dogg, Eminem, 50 Cent, Tupac, etc. Although  Eazy E (Eric Wright)  left before the world would have liked, he has truly coveted a name for himself in Hip Hop and gave the African American community a much needed wake up call on the seriousness of the AIDS  disease and proved that no one is invincible. Moreover, if these young, ambitious teens from Compton, California can make their dreams come true, why can’t you? Nothing is stopping you but you! Surround yourself with likeminded individuals that are just as hungry as you are for success, because THOSE are the people that will keep inspired to persevere, even when you feel  like quitting. Trust that God’s plan for your life is bigger than anything you could have ever imagined for yourself. I mean just imagine, 5 young men who started off making music for the neighborhood and were labeled as nothing but “street thugs”, have become one of the most revolutionary influences in Hip Hop.  Why? Not only because people believed in them, but most importantly because they believed in themselves! They didn’t let their enemies deter them from their destiny and neither should you. They made it Straight Outta Compton, and you will make it too. ✊🏿
