Breaking up with a person is always tough. No matter how sour the relationship may have gotten or how much hatred you’ve formed for that person, there’s always a portion of you that is sad to see the person go. Most break ups are a gradual process and how long you deal with it is different for everyone, but the one aspect that I think most people always have trouble with is the “moving on” part of the break up.
Watching someone move on can be hard. You may not be ready to let go of the memories and good times y’all shared or you may not want anyone to “take your place”. You may not want someone else to come and reap the benefits of the man that you helped make through the course of y’all’s relationship, or you just may not want him to move on before you. Whatever the case may be, all of your emotions and reasonings are valid and real. But Think about something. If he’s able to find someone else to replace the position you once had in his life, was he ever really yours in the first place? God has created a man specifically for you…a man that will cherish you, love you, and will build a life with you. Someone that can’t live without you simply because you make up their better half. That is what we’re all searching for in love. Not a person that will complete you (that is God’s job), but the person that will aid you in being the person that you are meant to be. Some people, despite how much we love them, they hinder us, and in holding on to them, we are slowly but surely loosing ourselves in the fantasy of keeping someone that was never meant to be kept.
Believe me, I know it hurts…but ultimately, the point of breaking up IS to move on. It’s to detach your heart from someone so the you can heal and pursue a true love, instead of just the mere idea of love. Every relationship God places in our life is meaningful and we should learn something from all of them, but we have to know when to let go of the seasonal folks and be patient enough to wait for the lifetime ones. So with that being said, when you know it’s time to move on, do it. Remember it’s not about him, it’s about you!
